COE Recruitment and Special Events for Fall 2009

  1. New Student Festival 2009: Sunday, August 23rd, 3:00 - 4:30pm, PSU (Volunteer: Judy Pickering)
    This event occurs immediately after the Freshman Convocation. Hundreds of freshmen come by the booths and talk to us about careers in education. 
  2.  2009 Majors Fair: Wednesday, September 23rd, 9:00 - 3:00pm, PSU
    IDS110 instructors require students to attend to help them clarify what they want to do with their lives.  It is very busy with lots of questions and interest in education. (Volunteers: Fred Groves, Joan Test, Denise Cunningham, Ching-Wen Chang, Judy Pickering, Stephanie Marinec, Paris DePaepe, Donna Beardsley, Kim Roam, Teresa Steele, Scott Myers)
  3. Springfield College and Career Fair: Oct 6th, 4:30 - 7:30pm, University Plaza Convention Center
    This event will be open to all SPS students as well as surrounding Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas areas. Last year there were approximately 1500 students and parents in attendance.  This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our programs as well as our newest services...i.e. "CLAW" . (Volunteers: Bill Agnew, Judy Pickering, Annice McLean)
  4. Showcase 2009: Saturday, October 10th, 10:00 - 2:30pm, PSU
    High school students and parents are invited from around Missouri and surronding states to come for campus tours and opportunities to meet department representatives and faculty about our programs.  Attendees are also invited to the afternoon football game.  Hill Hall should be open from 10:00 - 2:00pm for parents and students to view facilities.  COE will have a table with information in the PSU atrium.   5. St. Louis National Fair (NACAC): Oct 18th, (Volunteer: Stephanie Marinec)
  6. Homecoming 2009: Oct 31st, 10:00am - 1:00pm BearFest Village.  The theme for homecoming this year is The Ultimate Adventure.  Fuddruckers will be providing the food and student organizations will be manning tables full of fun kids acitivities.  COE will provide a tent as well for your comfort.  It's lots of fun and we'll need help w/ serving and greeting so plan to come! COE will provide shirts for those volunteering during this event. Contact Teresa Steel for details. Need volunteers to help!
  7. St. Louis Reception: Nov 19th, 7:00 - 9:00pm, Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet
    Informational reception for prospective students and their families from St.Louis and surrounding areas.  Approximately 30% of our incoming freshmen are from the St.Louis region so we are hoping for a great turnout. (Volunteers: Judy Pickering, Scott Myers)
