"Supporting Students with High Functioning Autism and Related Disorders"

This presentation will include an overview of research documenting the often "hidden" or overlooked needs of students with high functioning autism, Asperger Syndrome and other related disorders. The focus will include an overview of characteristics that manifest as both strengths and weaknesses and the implications for the classroom. Both academic and social concerns will be addressed along with strategies for support.

"Some Expectations of Principals"

What does the principal expect of me? Teacher evaluation is more than a piece of paper and a couple of observations. Insight into expectations that may not be written or voiced but that are noticed and enter into a principal's evaluation of faculty will be discussed and "principal pleasing behaviors" that can help teachers demonstrate how much they contribute to their school will be sumarized.

"An Introduction to School Law"

As new teachers, being aware of school law includes, for example, a knowledge of Missouri school laws along with policies/procedures of a school district and the U.S. Supreme Court decisions. Participants will be given an introduction to school law and our role representing the state. The seminar will include information on our responsibility to protect the health, welfare, and safety of children. Each participant will receive a CD that will be helpful on the various topics presented in the workshop.

"Left Brain, Right Brain, My Brain Hurts . . . !"

Teachers today are held accountable for teaching all students to high levels of achievement. In order to do that, teachers need to know the learning styles of their students more than ever before. This presentation provides an overview of the Dunn and Dunn model of learning styles. The comprehensive model provides a framework for delivering instruction, managing the classroom, and interacting with parents regarding students' achievement and behavior in the classroom.

Dealing with common misconceptions in science, or hey! I taught it to them, so why don't they get it? We will discuss how to guide students to develop correct science knowledge, and analyze practical teaching approaches that can be used right away in your classroom. This session is suitable for all grade levels and all educators who teach science.

"Classroom Resources from the Missouri Department of Conservation"

Bring your sacks! Jay not only shows participants the vast resources available to educators from the Conservation Department, but also gives out stacks of free materials to take home and use in the classroom. This session is suitable for all grade levels and spans all content areas, not just science.
