Community of Vision Educator (CoVE) Seminars

This monthly Seminar is held in 3 locations and provides Vision Professionals with information about educational practices, teaching techniques, updates in the field and assistive technology.   Seminars are held in Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia.

  • The Role of the Paraprofessional

  • Make-it-and–Take it Workshops - $40.00 per seminar

    • Creating Tactile Calendars for students who are blind or visually impaired and benefit from a concrete pre-symbolic communication system.
    • Building Active Learning Space for students who are blind or visually impaired and benefit from a developmental and concrete approach to learning.
    • Creating Literature for Children with Cortical Visual Impairment
    • Using Switches with iOS Literacy Apps for Students who use Magnification or Voice Over

  • Instructional Strategies for Students with Visual Impairment and Additional Disabilities: 

    • The purpose of this event is to introduce effective educational practices used when providing learning opportunities for students who are blind or visually impaired and also have additional significant disabilities. The educational practices addressed during this presentation will focus on learning by doing which is typically used for individuals who are blind or visually impaired and function under the developmental age of 3. Topics will include Child Guided Assessment, Active Learning and Tactile Strategies for communication and literacy. NOTE: LUNCH ON YOUR OWN.

  • Accessibility Features in Assistive Technology for Students who are blind or visually impaired :

    • This presentation will provide an overview on accessibility using documents in iOS, Google and the PC. The topics covered during this event will include accessibility features provided through the Ease of Access Center on the PC, accessibility tools on iOS Apple Products and tools and extensions for Chrome. Resources on how to create accessible documents will be discussed. Although the main focus of this presentation is related to accessibility for students who are blind or visually impaired, some tools are beneficial to students with learning disabilities. NOTE: LUNCH IS ON YOUR OWN.
