Members Present: Dr. David Hough, Dr. David Brown, Mark Fisher*, Trish Goddard, D’Arcy Simmons, Linda Azeez, Vicki Dunlop, Jennifer Cvitak, Doris Grevillius, Janice Reynolds
Members Absent: Chuck Facer
Dr. Hough opened the meeting by asking the committee how they felt the Strategic Planning was going. Doris felt the large meetings were helpful and we were reminded that the next meeting is January 28. Vicki felt there was a lot of information put forth, and wondered how it would all be managed.
Dr. Hough replied that he would like to see an annual report published and widely distributed. We need to document programs already started. He suggested a brochure with lots of pictures, highlighting the best things that have happened in that year. He also informed us that Missouri State is now requiring all departments to produce an annual report.
Dr. Brown felt that parents want the strategies prioritized and put on a timeline. He also noted that direction for GLS needs to be established before a new director is hired, and that this plan be manageable.
Vicki told us that parents are asking specifically about starting a middle school and a primary center. Dr. Hough replied that he will support the Strategic Plan.
Other topics of concern and discussion were as follows:
- e-high school (last Friday’s meeting was summarized)
- technology
- the need to keep parents informed of classroom/teaching changes as they occur
- having a good PR person for GLS
- registration and student population
- public perception about student enrollment, the nature of GLS students, and
the attitude that Greenwood “does it better”
- T.V. time for positive information about GLS, including the Sr. Exhibition
and parent participation
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 am.
*Mark Fisher will take notes at the next meeting!
