Notes taken by D’Arcy Simmons

Members Present: Dr. David Hough, Linda Azeez, Jennifer Cvitak, Chuck Facer, Mark Fisher, Trish Goddard, Doris Grevillius, Janice Reyonlds, D’Arcy Simmons

Members Absent: Vicki Dunlop

Linda Azeez asked Dr. Hough to address the reasoning behind faculty attending COE meetings.  Dr. Hough stated that it was due to Greenwood only having one administrator in the building.  Some of the faculty would like Dr. Moseman to attend for continuity. At this time faculty members are asked to attend the meeting so it allows Dr. Moseman more time in the building.  The meetings are weekly and last approximately 11/2 hours.

Dr. Hough addressed that he wants the faculty and staff to feel free to bring information or concerns to him.  He would like to work towards correcting any inaccurate information.

We discussed continuing improvements on making Greenwood a more inviting and friendly place.  Dr. Hough stated that over the last year improvements have been made and noticed.  The committee addressed that many times it isn’t the fact that we’re not “friendly”; a time factor is greatly involved.  For example college students come in during a lesson or leave before a faculty member can speak to them.

Linda Azeez asked Dr. Hough if having the practicum students in the classroom was fair to the student teachers.  She also asked are practicum students spending enough time in the classroom.  Currently, many practicum students are only able to spend up to 20 minutes in the classroom before they move to another classroom.  D’Arcy Simmons mentioned to  the committee that she had been told by Dr. David Brown that other arrangements were going to be made next semester with the practicum students in the classrooms.  Dr. Hough and Dr. Brown are currently working towards simplifying matters with practicum students next semester.

There is a possible plan for setting up a meeting with College of Education professors and Greenwood faculty on expectations and goals for next semester.

Currently there is an E-mints Evaluation Committee that meets on Tuesdays.  Committee members are Dr. Bill Agnew, Dr. Barb Martin, Cindy McGregor, and Dave Meinert.  They are developing and designing research on E-mints by talking to parents, teachers, and students involved with the program. The research information is being collected from Greenwood as well as two others schools in the surrounding areas.

Dr. Bill Agnew will be working with Greenwood sometime within the next few weeks concerning Greenwood’s Strategic Plan.
