Child and Family Development Faculty

Ms. Kathy Bernet is a Lecturer in Early Childhood and Family Development. She most recently has been with the Child Advocacy Center in Springfield as a Forensic Child Interviewer.  Prior to this she was a Certified Child Life Specialist at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and at Cox South in Springfield.  Kathy received her B.S. in Child and Family Development from Missouri State and her Master's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Arkansas.  She teaches child development and child life courses.

Dr. Sabrina Brinson is an Associate Professor in Child and Family Development.  Dr. Brinson has numerous publications including articles in Young Children and Dragon Lode and Founder & National Director of National, Community-based literacy programs (Boys Booked on barbershops-B-BOB/Girls Booked on Beauty shops-G-BOB).

Dr. Mary Beth Mann is an Associate Professor in Child and Family Development.  She teaches courses that span the very early years of human development including infancy, toddlerhood, and the early childhood years.  Dr. Mann brings to her teaching and supervision of students the benefit of her years of experience as a childcare administrator.  Her interests lie in the promotion of the ideals of best practice in the provision of care for the youngest of America's citizens.

Dr. Jim Meyer is an Assistant Professor in Child and Family Development and teaches many of the family studies courses, as well as courses related to the development of young children and human development through the life cycle.  His interest in building stronger families through the development, implementation, and evaluation of family life education programs.  Dr. Meyer is also interested in the enhancement of healthy adolescent development.

Ms. Kim Roam is a Lecturer in Early Childhood and Family Development. She most recently has been with the Missouri State University Learning Connection program as a Child Care Trainer. Prior to this she has experience working with Head Start and YMCA programs. She is an active member of the Ozarks Association for the Education of Young Children.  Kim received her B.S. in Child and Family Development & Masters of Science in Early Childhood and Family Development and her Master's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Missouri State University. She teaches child development courses.

Dr. Joan Test is an Assistant Professor in Child and Family Development. She received her Ed.M. and Ed. D. in Human Development from Harvard University.  She is interested in young children’s development of social cognition through everyday interactions.  She brings experience as an infant child care teacher, preschool director, and cross-cultural researcher of infant and toddler development in child care.  She has taught infant and child development, human development, language development, infant and preschool teaching, and research methods.  She currently teaches courses in human development and preschool teaching, and is the faculty liaison to the Child Development Center.
