Institute for School Improvement

     "Linking Theory & Practice"

The Institute for School Improvement (ISI) at Missouri State University (MSU) is a University center that manages, supervises, and administers a number of grants and contracts. ISI initiatives contribute to the MSU statewide mission in Public Affairs.  ISI staff work collaboratively with University and community partners to support a number of projects tied to the mission of linking theory to practice.  ISI staff, project investigators, and research assistants conduct research, evaluate programs, and develop special projects that connect communities with schools.   ISI publishes an annual report, along with periodic policy briefs, research summaries, a variety of statistical reports, and program evaluations.  Following are a few of the major evaluations and projects that are currently in progress:

  • Ozarks Educational Research Initiative (OERI): This collaborative network of educational researchers and educators in Southwest Missouri includes seven school districts who have signed a cooperative agreement designed to promote educational research.
  • Middle Grades Research Journal (MGRJ): The purpose of the Middle Grades Research Journal is to provide empirical and theoretical studies that focus on middle grades education.  A variety of articles are published quarterly in March, June, September, and December of each volume year.  MGRJ is a refereed, peer reviewed journal that accepts both solicited and unsolicited manuscripts.

ISI staff work many long hours (often evenings and weekends), alongside our many educational partners, to make the Institute's many initiatives successful and meaningful.  These efforts have improved education for students, teachers, families, and communities.
