Secondary education advisement

  • Advisement for all students in Master of Science-Secondary Education (MSED) and Bachelor of Science-Secondary Education (BSED) programs is through the home department. View the Secondary Education Contact List to find an advisor.
  • To register for the next semester, all students with fewer than 75 hours must have online release by an advisor; however, it is recommended that all students meet with an advisor each semester.

There are program specific prerequisites for the following courses:

  • MUS 200, KIN 200, SEC 302, PSY 360, EDC 345, EDC 350, EDT 365, SPE 340, RDG 474, SFR/PSY 486
  • Departmental teaching methods courses
  • Professional education courses offered through the Music and Kinesiology Education Departments

Program prerequisites are strictly enforced and students are notified and administratively dropped if all prerequisites are not met.

Admission to teacher education is required for the following courses:

  • KIN 411, 431, 440, 468, 493, 496, and 575
  • MUS 340, 410, 411, 430, 488, 494 and 496
  • EDC 350, SPE 340, PSY 486 and RDG 474
  • Departmental teaching methods courses
  • Supervised student teaching

Make an appointment with your secondary education departmental advisor several months before the end of the current semester. The registration process begins well before a new semester begins.
