The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), established in 1922, is dedicated to improving the education for students with exceptionalities -- students with disabilities and students with gifts and/or talents. CEC publishes numerous professional journals including Exceptional Children and Teaching Exceptional Children and sponsors state and national conferences. A variety of education resources and additional information can be accessed through their World Wide Web site.
Student Council for Exceptional ChildrenThe Student Council for Exceptional Children (Chapter #978), a unit of the Council for Exceptional Children, is a professional organization of Missouri State students interested in the area of special education, including students with disabilities and students with gifts and talents. The focus of SCEC is to promote professionalism through school and community activities. SCEC is an active student organization which has participated in such campus events as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and has sponsored awareness events for such topics as autism, learning disabilities, and assistive technology. Recently, we have had several students attend the Missouri CEC Convention and the National CEC Convention, with some of our students attaining positions as state officers for the Missouri Council for Exceptional Children. The organization is sponsored by the Special Education Program and advised by Dr. Tamara Arthaud.
