Special Education Graduate Program

Building upon an educational foundation

In response to the statewide shortage of special education teachers, our department developed an alternative master’s degree program which combines both teacher certification in cross categorical special education K-12 and a master’s in special education. The special education alternative certification track (SEACT), was designed for those who wish to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities while pursuing teacher certification and a corresponding graduate degree. Our autism spectrum disorder area is also available as an accelerated master’s program.

• Our program has been formally approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• As a student, you have the opportunity to choose between four emphasis areas to further develop your education. 
• The program is designed to include a mixture of online and face-to-face course delivery options for maximum flexibility. 
• Coursework includes an arranged supervised practica and on-site methods for hours of hands-on experience.
