Building upon an educational foundation

In response to a statewide shortage of special education teachers, we developed an alternative master’s degree program, which combines both teacher certification in cross categorical special education K-12 and a master’s in special education. The special education alternative certification track (SEACT) is intended for those who wish to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities while pursuing teacher certification and a corresponding graduate degree. Our autism spectrum disorder emphasis area is also available as an accelerated master’s program.

Why seek a special education graduate degree from Missouri State?

  • Our program has been formally approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • You'll have the opportunity to specialize your educational and professional path by choosing between four emphasis areas.
  • The program is designed to include a mixture of online and face-to-face course delivery options for maximum flexibility.
  • Coursework includes an arranged supervised practicum and on-site methods for hours of hands-on experience.
