Program description

The Graduate Certificate in the Education of Gifted and Talented Students provides a 12-hour* graduate-level experience for educators, administrators, curriculum developers, school leaders, or community members who are interested in the education of gifted and talented students. The program provides for the acquisition of knowledge, skill and dispositions necessary for educators to recognize the variations in learning and development in cognitive and affective areas between and among individuals with gifts and talents and to modify education programs including curriculum, instruction, assessment and environment to provide them with meaningful and challenging learning experiences.

Admission criteria

To be considered for the program, a student must have a 3.00 grade point average. Students who do not meet the normal admission requirements, but who provide evidence of outstanding potential, will be considered for probationary admission. Probationary conditions will be defined by the graduate program faculty. Students in an Accelerated Master’s, MSEd, EdS, or a doctoral program are encouraged to consider this certificate program. Admission to the certificate program does not constitute admission to any other Missouri State University graduate program.

*Adding SFR 780 Introduction for Educational Research and ELE 772 Research Seminar in Elementary Education or EEM799 Thesis will earn Missouri DESE certification for Gifted and Talented Education.

Completion Requirements

Courses must be completed with a 3.00 GPA for successful completion of certificate.
