Career Pathways

Career Pathways

Career Pathways Consultants will provide assistance to school districts, career and technical centers, postsecondary institutions and business organizations in the development and implementation of career pathways, to ensure that all Missouri students are “Success Ready.” We work on building career pathway networks that include education, business, industry and postsecondary partners.

It is our goal to assist school districts in identifying high demand careers in their region. We want to support all students by providing career awareness, exploration, and preparation activities. Many of these high-demand occupations fall into the science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) categories. We will work with the other regional advisors to advertise and support STEAM events, and encourage exploration of non-traditional career pathways. We will promote work-based experiences for students, as well as equipping students with skills and credentials needed to succeed in a demanding labor market.

This year we also focused on a series of webinars called Career Pathways: Shaping Missouri’s Future. We engaged with business leaders and educators across the state to share their expertise with students and teachers regarding several pathways. These included Agriculture, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Hospitality. We recorded the sessions and sent them to a YouTube channel for further review from educators and students. This was a successful way to share real-world experiences with students, to explore a variety of career pathways, and we hope to continue this in the future.

It is also our goal to connect educators to employers and postsecondary institutions, which prepare students for careers. We coordinate and facilitate externships, which provide first-hand exposure to businesses within different career pathways. The goal of the grants is for educators to share the information gained with students, and implement ideas within their classroom, in order to prepare them for these careers. We will promote and provide professional development and resources for teachers, and facilitate workshops and training, to aid them in giving students those necessary essential skills for success for their future careers.

Career Advisor

Career Advisors work with school districts, area career centers, military, and postsecondary institutions to ensure that Missouri students will have the knowledge, skills and experiences to make successful transitions to postsecondary options based on their educational and career goals. We focus on Missouri Connections, an online career program, and ensuring that all students have a rigorous and relevant individual career and academic plan (ICAP.) We also work with school districts to organize local and regional non-traditional STEAM events.

With regard to Missouri Connections, Career Advisors coordinate regional training for school counselors and educators, to support them with the implementation and integration of the career program. We also assist school counselors in the development and implementation of the Course Planner and ICAP for their students. We work collaboratively with school districts to develop and enhance career pathways programs and processes. We work with DESE School Counseling to ensure that our regional and state programs are aligned and complementary. We also provide assistance and help plan nontraditional events for comprehensive high schools and career and technical centers, to increase awareness and improve participation in these Nontraditional Careers. This also includes planning and advertising opportunities with statewide events featuring these Nontraditional Careers.
