Expectations and Responsibilities
Students pursuing doctoral degrees are entering the scholarly world—and in that world come both tremendous opportunities and significant responsibilities. The following link contains policies and procedures for graduate students at Missouri State University: https://graduate.missouristate.edu/CurrentStudents/Policies.htm. Here, we highlight student expectations and responsibilities central to the Leadership, Learning, and Educational Change doctoral program.
We suggest you think of your responsibilities as students in this program in three major ways.
Coming to class prepared: Students will appreciate and value the courses they take in this program more completely when they come to class prepared. That means students need to finish their reading, complete their writing assignments, and reflect thoughtfully about the ideas and topics they are exploring.
Communicating regularly with professors and colleagues: Doctoral programs are most encouraging and helpful when true (and lasting) communities are formed and enjoyed. We encourage you to find time (and reasons) to communicate and meet regularly with those working with you in this degree program.
Honoring and contributing to the research and scholarship: Students will be thankful for what they discover in the thinking and work of others—scholars and practitioners who have contributed research and theory. Students will want to contribute to this scholarship and they will want to do this in a responsible and compelling way. This link about Research Compliance will show students about some of the requirements of doing effective and appropriate research: https://ora.missouristate.edu/research_compliance.htm.
