SFR 676 Topical Issues in Education (1-5 credit hours)
To develop further understanding and skills in the improvement of teaching procedures, curriculum, supervision, or administration. Each course is concerned with a single topic. Variable content course.
Prior learning assessment protocol
Students submit an assessment that measures mastery of course content. Content and credit hours granted may vary depending on the topic studied. A designated individual (instructor, program director, or department head) evaluates the submitted assessment to determine if credit is given.
Eligibility requirements
There are no formal eligibility requirements, but interested students should consult with a program director or department head to determine whether their prior learning experiences make them good candidates.
Assessment administration details
This assessment may be submitted at any time, date and location agreed upon by the designated individual and student. The designated individual has two weeks to determine if the proposed assessment demonstrates mastery of course content.
Fee
Students pay an assessment administration fee of $100 when they register via the departmental storefront.
Score requirements
Scoring is pass/fail. Students must attain a passing grade to qualify for credit by assessment.
Retake policy
Students may resubmit; however, an administration assessment fee of $100 will be applied for each resubmission.
Credits awarded
Students who pass this assessment must request an Institutional Examination Report Form from the department and submit it to the Office of the Registrar. As stated above, credit hours granted may vary based on the educational topic studied.

In-depth analysis of selected issues currently generating great interest and controversy in American education. Attention to the effects of the issues on the teaching profession, curriculum, instruction and school personnel.
