Achieve certification and more

The SEACT option will give you initial teacher certification in mild to moderate disabilities. At the same time, you can obtain a master's degree in special education.

Make your experience count: SEACT students participate in the Pathways for Paras Program.

Why choose the special education alternative certification (SEACT) option?

  • Earn a master's degree and initial teacher certification in special education.
  • Your classes are online, mostly in asynchronous format (as-you-go learning).
  • Learn as you work. This flexible program allows you to keep your current job while you do student teaching.
  • Upon admission into the program, you can apply for a provisional teaching certificate and teach as a special education teacher in a certified K-12 school for students with mild to moderate disabilities. This is also possible for students who work as a para-educator in an accredited K-12 school working with students with mild to moderate disabilities.
  • Expectations are high for SEACT students. However, the competency based course work is highly structured with significant advisor and faculty support.
