Completing your degree: Core + option area
To successfully complete the Master of Science in Education (MSEd) Special Education degree, you must complete:
- Nine hours of core course work.
- 23-36 hours of course work in your option area (hours vary by area):
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Blindness and low vision
- Comprehensive intervention specialist (CIS)
- Education of the deaf and hard of hearing
- Within the EDHH option, there are three tracks. Your advisor will help you determine which track is best for you.
- Special education alternative certification (SEACT)
Following completion of core course work and option area classes, you must also pass a comprehensive exam.
Option areas with an an accelerated path
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Comprehensive intervention specialist (CIS)
- Education of the deaf and hard of hearing
An accelerated master's degree helps you save money and graduate sooner. You can start earning graduate credits as you complete your undergraduate degree (major). These credits will count toward both of your degrees.
