A graduate assistantship (GA) is a beneficial experience where you get to train in your field and pursue student affairs on a full-time basis.

You'll also lower the cost of your education by earning a tuition fee waiver and a stipend.

What is a graduate assistantship?

If you plan to attend Missouri State University in person, graduate assistantship positions are available to students who qualify.  A graduate assistantship is It's an opportunity to learn about your career field by working within the student affairs in higher education field.

To be admitted into the student affairs in higher education program, you will need to have a graduate assistantship (GA) position, a full-time position in student affairs, or have the ability to complete practicum/internship hours within a higher education institution.

There are a number of GA positions available for student affairs students completing the program in person, mostly within Missouri State's Division of Student Affairs. GAs are selected through a competitive process. Those who are selected will receive both a tuition (and fees) waiver, a monthly stipend and discounts at the bookstore.

Note: Individuals who are Missouri State University employees are not be eligible for a GA position.

Things to note: 

  • On your GA application, you can list five preference areas where you'd like to gain experience.
  • Residence hall graduate assistants are paid a slightly higher rate and receive a housing and meal plan. 
  • The application process for a graduate assistantship is separate from the application for program enrollment.
  • Prospective students' applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
