Illuminate an attainable future

If you have a passion for making the world accessible and equitable for all, you should investigate a career path in educating individuals who are blind or have low vision.

The BLV (blindness and low vision) option can provide you with the knowledge base and skill set to become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).

Why choose the blindness and low vision option?

  • All courses are 100% online.
  • You have the option to do one or both of the following:
    • Complete course work to obtain a Missouri Teaching Certification in Visual Impairment (VI).
    • Complete course work to earn a master’s degree in special education with an emphasis in VI.
  • You can finish the program in two to three years.
  • You can learn to read, write and teach Braille.
  • Accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Blindness/low vision scholarship

Students who reside in Missouri and are pursuing certification in blind and low vision B-12 (BLV) in our program are eligible for a scholarship administered through the School of Special Education, Leadership, and Professional Studies.

This funding is provided by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and aimed at increasing the number of highly qualified teachers with certification in blind and low vision B-12 (BLV) in the state of Missouri.
