Dr. Amanda Benedict-Chambers

Dr. Mandy Benedict-Chambers is an assistant professor of elementary education. She taught elementary school in Charlottesville, Virginia, for more than four years and continues to teach science to local elementary students as much as possible.
She earned her master’s degree in curriculum development at the University of Michigan in 2005. There, she served as the project coordinator for the Investigating and Questioning our World through Science and Technology (IQWST) project, which is a middle school science curricula developed to meet the learning goals of the Next Generation Science Standards. She completed her doctorate in Teaching and Teacher Education at the University of Michigan in 2014.
Her research focuses on pre-service and in-service elementary teacher learning, teachers learning to engage in ambitious teaching in science and the roles of tools and practice-based teacher education in supporting teacher learning and practice. She is the principal investigator of the project: Video Evidence for Candidates’ Teaching Reflections (VECTR), which examines how video-supported reflections help pre-service teachers learn to notice and respond to student thinking.
