Admission requirements

  • Master's Degree: Applicants must have a master's degree from an accredited institution. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in graduate studies is required. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 must submit GRE scores.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 3 years of full-time professional educational experience is required.
  • International Students: Must meet the minimum graduate requirements for international students at Missouri State University.

The admissions process for the Doctorate in Education at Missouri State University is a comprehensive, two-phase system designed to select a diverse and well-rounded cohort. This process ensures that the cohort reflects diverse identities and experiences, which is intended to foster a robust learning environment.

Phase 1: Required Application Materials

  • Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are required initially. Official transcripts will be required if admitted.
  • GRE Scores: Only required if GPA in graduate studies is below 3.0.
  • CV/Resume:  Must show relevant professional experience. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of full-time professional educational experience prior to the start of the term for which they are applying. Educational experience is broadly defined, so please include and detail any relevant roles you have held.
  • Personal Statement: Must show evidence of consistency between candidate’s goals and the aims of the EdD program. Candidates should express their reasons for pursuing a doctorate, career aspirations, specific educational questions or problems they wish to explore, and how they believe the EdD in Leadership, Learning, and Educational Change aligns with their goals and interests.
  • Recommendations: Three recommendations are needed. At least one should address the candidate's academic ability and performance.

Phase 2: Required Advanced Application Materials (selected applicants only)

Selected candidates will be invited to complete Phase 2 and will have 15 days to do so.

  • One Essay Response
